In 2006 we established Audio Trails. The concept was simple: audio tours downloaded onto MP3 players and iPods that guided visitors around heritage and countryside sites. We produced the first downloadable audio trails and now there are thousands available to download from the Internet. We led the way.

2010 saw the launch of our first native apps and we now we offer three software solutions that offer engaging visitor experiences:

  • Welcome To…Native – iOS and Android apps delivering rich location-aware offline content – text, images, audio and video – great for sites with poor phone signal. Interactive mapping, places or interest and trails can be enhanced with our range of plugins that allow visitors to send virtual postcards, play games and superimpose old photos that can be faded in and out of the camera view.  Or use our platform to encourage secondary spend and drive visitor traffic through reward and loyalty schemes.
  • Welcome To…GPS Audio Tour Guide – great for bus, boat and train tour operators to play over vehicle PA systems, and walkers to play through their earphones!
  • Welcome To…Web – a location aware solution delivering rich content about places of interest and walking trails that will work across all browsers, regardless of device or Operating System – great for sites with a strong mobile network!

We’ve also built a few interpretation panels and exhibitions too!

Audio Trails have an invaluable appreciation of how the physical world and digital technology can work together to tell stories, and have created an iOS and Android heritage app that appeals to both visitors to, and residents of, the city.

Christopher Wilson Norwich Heritage Economic & Regeneration Trust

Audio Trails have been a wonderful company to work with. I have particularly valued their emphasis on the ‘spirit of place’, adding in subtle layers of sound to help people really feel immersed in the heritage of a particular site.

Jessie Binns National Trust

The experience and ideas that Audio Trails brought to the project and the willingness to go the extra mile to ensure its success, means that they will certainly be invited to pitch for similar projects in the future.

It has been a pleasure working with Audio Trails to create our very own app for the Archbishop’s Palace. Their flexible approach, helpful advice and thoughtful ideas have given us a multimedia tour that encapsulates the aims of the project and provides a fascinating ‘Who’s who’ of the people that shaped the history of Palace.

Charles Leggatt, Hon. Curator of the Archbishop’s Palace and Education Garden, Southwell Minster

A MILLION thanks, you’ve done a fantastic job for us. Your amazing support, patience and endeavours created the perfect app!!

As a local boy I was impressed by the range and depth of lesser known places and topics you’ve unearthed.  Definitely not the usual run of the mill, to be expected content – well done!” (Discover Derbyshire & Peak District app)
