The museum’s north side has been closed while specialist inspections take place
The York Castle Museum has announced a partial closure after it confirmed that the north side of the museum has RAAC in the roofing.
The form of aerated concrete has been deemed a potential safety risk by the government, and recently hit headlines as some school constructed in part with the material were forced to close.
The now closed north side of the museum houses Kirkgate, the Period Rooms and Shaping the Body. The museum said it is undertaking specialist inspections.
The rest of York Castle Museum, including the Prison Cells, the Sixties Gallery and the First World War Gallery will remain open.
