Derby Museums’ open invitation to participate will create an art exhibition with a difference and in the spirit of experimentation the museum pledges to display all of the submissions, in this free to enter summer show.

Every ready-to-hang submission (that meets with the exhibition criteria) will be exhibited at Derby Museum and Art Gallery within the museum galleries and surrounding spaces and once full artwork will also be exhibited at the two other museum sites, Pickford’s House and The Silk Mill.

“At Derby Museum we think that ‘no one of us is smarter than all of us’. We believe all citizens in our city have a right to experience and take part in great art, whether it’s looking at our intriguing collections or participating in the creation of our display,” said Tony Butler, Executive Director at Derby Museums. “I hope people’s art will be inspired by family, places, landscapes or a neighbourhood”

Part of the criteria is that work must have been created during 2015-16 and can be any media but must be two dimensional. It is possible to sell the artwork, which will be managed by the museum staff, with 40 per cent of the sale going back into the museum.

“We’d be delighted to see the museum full to bursting with amazing artworks that illustrate our shared world and our place within it,” said Andrea Hadley Johnson, Co-production and Engagement Manager at Derby Museums. “We’d love to see as many people as possible making, creating and sharing their art. ‘Everyone’ is in keeping with Derby Museums’ desire, to actively build, encourage and value creativity in everyone.”

Continuing with the theme of Everyone, Derby Museums will also be hosting FIGMENT Derby in August, a free, inclusive, participatory arts event which occurs in over 20 North American cities. This will be the first FIGMENT event to take place in Europe and will be held at The Silk Mill on Saturday 20 August.

Everyone – Your Place in the World runs from 9 July – 25 September. Entry forms must be completed by 5pm on Monday 20 June.
