The Fashion Museum has moved its collection to a temporary home as it transitions to a new location at the Old Post Office in the centre of Bath.
The collection of 100,000 objects, which includes garments from as early as the 17th century, have been moved to a secure storage facility at the headquarters of local glove maker Dents in Warminster.
The Fashion Museum closed its doors at the Assembly Rooms in October 2022, ahead of the planned relocation to the Old Post Office. Despite having missed out on the Government’s latest Levelling Up Fund, the museum is expected to open again at the new location between 2027 and 2028 after securing alternative funding.

Fashion Museum Manager, Rosemary Harden, said Dents Headquarters was “the ideal space for the collection, and an opportunity “to forge closer links between the Museum and one of the UK’s leading heritage fashion brands.”
Deborah Moore, CEO of Dents, said: “The move of the collection and the curatorial team into our headquarters has felt seamless, and it’s wonderful to build on our long-standing relationship with this world-class collection as it works towards the creation of a brand-new museum in the centre of Bath.”
While the museum is closed, its curatorial team is continuing its programme of loans at The Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, V&A Dundee, and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, Mumbai.
