Opened in April 2019, Mary Quant will close on 16th February having attracted more visitors to the V&A than all the museum’s previous fashion exhibitions except Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty and the record-breaking Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams.

The show has now surpassed Wedding Dresses 1775-2014 which welcomed 316,852 visitors and Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion with 272,564. Outperforming these exhibitions makes Mary Quant the most successful show ever housed in the site’s dedicated fashion gallery.

The content featured over 120 garments, accessories, cosmetics, sketches and photographs, some of which were sourced through a #WeWantQuant campaign that called on the public to send in any Mary Quant apparel or memorabilia they owned. More than 1,000 responses were received, with 35 objects from 30 individuals selected for exhibit.

Once the show ends its run in South Kensington next week it will head north for a spell at V&A Dundee. The exhibition will open to the public on 4th April as part of a wider season of fashion programming at the Kengo Kuma designed museum.
