The Migration Network aims to increase confidence about working on projects exploring migration themes by sharing knowledge and best practice, both from within and outside the culture sector.
Partners already signed up to the initiative include COMPAS (The University of Oxford’s Centre on Migration, Policy and Society), Counterpoints Arts, Horniman Museum and Gardens, Museums Association, National Museums Liverpool, National Trust, and Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums.
“We hope that the Network and its activities can be a forum for organisations and individuals to come together and interrogate our role at this time,” a statement from Migration Museum notes, referencing the challenges facing museums and wider society.
To kickstart the Network’s agenda, a series of regional events will be run throughout 2020 and 2021 – the expectation is that the majority will be online unless social distancing guidelines change significantly.
Nationwide Network
Dates for the Migration Network’s regional events are:
North-West: Thursday 1 October 2020 – with Museum of Liverpool, Liverpool
North-East and Yorkshire: Wednesday 2 December 2020 – with Discovery Museum, Newcastle
South-West and Wales: February 2021 – with M Shed, Bristol
Midlands: Spring 2021 – with University of Warwick, Coventry
Scotland: Spring/Summer 2021 – Glasgow (partner/venue TBC)
London and South-East: Summer 2021 – London (partner/venue TBC)
