Appointments

The Natural History Museum has appointed Mark Read to the Board of Trustees, who will begin the role in June 2022.

The Whitechapel Gallery has appointed Gilane Tawadros as its new director, who will begin the role in October 2022.

Exhibitions

The Science Museum has opened Cancer Revolution: Science, innovation and hope, a major free exhibition on the treatment and understanding of cancer. The exhibition will show objects never before displayed in the UK, including the first malignant bone tumour to be identified in a dinosaur fossil and a cast from the 1950s developed to hold radium seeds for skin cancer treatment.

A new exhibition of over 100 paintings and sculptures by world renowned artists including Cézanne, Van Gogh, Rodin, Picasso, Matisse, Klimt, Kandinsky and Mondrian will open at The National Gallery next year. Loans from museums and private collections around the world will make up ‘After Impressionism’, which runs from 25 March to 13 August 2023.

A free exhibition that tells the story of Scotland’s pioneering and successful commercial photographers – best known for popularising the holiday postcard – will open at V&A Dundee this summer. Developed in collaboration with the University of St Andrews, ‘Sincerely, Valentines - From Postcards to Greetings Cards’ is a partnership between V&A Dundee and curatorial practice Panel that uncovers the story of Valentines, bringing together the disciplines of photography, illustration and print design. It runs from 2 July 2022 until 8 January 2023.

The Horniman Museum and Gardens has received £475,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop its £8.6 million Nature + Love project

Queer Britain has secured a two year partnership with drinks maker Diageo, which will provide funding to support the setup of the museum space, and access to archivist resources to support the museum’s archiving efforts.

Hastings Museum & Art Gallery has been awarded £3,500 through The Royal Society’s Places of science scheme to develop the community project ‘The Dinosaur on Your Doorstep’. The funding will be used to engage with residents in Hollington through exciting events and activities inspired by the museum’s collections and Hastings’ dinosaur heritage.

The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum has received a £1 million grant from Arts Council to restore and preserve the 100-year old building and its collections. The Dorset museum will use the funds for essential repairs and a new air purification system.

The National Football Museum and Kew Gardens are among the recipients of half a billion pounds in government funding to support low carbon heating and energy efficiency measures. The funding has been released to allow for the installation of low carbon heating systems, including heat pumps and electric heating, with many projects also fitting wall and roof insulation, double glazing and LED lighting, and renewables such as solar panels.
