Appointments
- The Secretary of State has appointed Alain Clapham, Viscount Charles Colville and Professor Caroline Malone as Trustees of the Museum of the Home for a term of three years, commencing on 04 November 2021 until 03 November 2024.
- Liverpool’s International Slavery Museum has appointed a new interim Head of Museum. Former Black Cultural Archive director, Paul Reid takes over from Dr Richard Benjamin who is on a two-year secondment to University of Liverpool.
Exhibitions and displays
- Black Country Living Museum (BCLM) is creating a new industrial area, which will tell the story of the Black Country from the 1940s to the 1960s, and is seeking stories from individuals (or their descendants) who moved to the region to work for Black Country metal foundries.
- At London transport Museum, Legacies: London Transport’s Caribbean Workforce. The exhibition celebrates the contribution Caribbean people have made to transport in London since the 1950s to the present day. 11 February 2022.
- An online archive of historic British Army material has been launched today by the Army Museums Ogilby Trust (AMOT).

Funding and acquisitions
- Biggin Hill Memorial Museum has secured £68,530 of funding from AIM Biffa Award History Makers, as part of the Landfill Communities Fund, which will fund a new exhibition to bring together material to showcase the acts of service and personal perspectives of ATA female officers and women who served in the WAAF.
- Through a Crowdfunder appeal, Wessex Museums is aiming to raise £5,000 towards its Thomas Hardy exhibition, across its four partner museums.
- A hoard of more than 130 gold coins found in West Norfolk, dating back 1,400 years is set to be acquired by Norwich Castle Museum.

Awards
- VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Accolade Winners 2020-21 have been announced this week. Gold awards were handed to The National Horse Racing Museum, Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum, and Haynes International Motor Museum. Best Told Story awards were handed to Killhope Lead Mining Museum, The Beacon Museum, and Dorset Museum. Welcome awards were handed to the National Coal Mining Museum for England, and the Museum of Cannock Chase. Hidden Gem awards were handed to Dales Countryside Museum, Bromwich Hall – The Manor House Museum, The Salisbury Museum, REME Museum and the Quaker Tapestry Museum.
Events
- Leeds City Museum is to host a launch event on the latest work from local textile artist Mister Finch, inspired by the museum’s collection. November 9th 2021
- Part of the WWF’s Art For Your World project, the likes of the Natural History Museum, Imperial War Museums and National Waterfront Museum will be illuminated in green.
