The Prime Minister has appointed Julian Glover OBE and Taryn Nixon as Trustees of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, for terms of three years commencing 01 May 2022 until 30 April 2025.

Openings

Queer Britain has officially opened its doors with temporary display ‘Welcome To Queer Britain’ which will be on show until July 4th.

The Hands on History Museum in Hull is to reopen on Saturday 14th May 2022 for the first time since lockdown. It will then be open as normal from noon to 4pm every second and fourth Saturday of each month.

Exhibitions

The World Museum in Liverpool has revealed more details about its Doctor Who exhibition, set to open on 27th May 2022. narrated by Doctor Who writer and Sherlock actor Mark Gatiss. Theint eractive exhibition will exhibit the world of science within the universe of Doctor Who.

A painting from the V&A Museum is to go on display at Dorset Museum later in May. ‘Village Choir’ by Thomas Webster will be loaned to the museum as part of its new ‘Hardy’s Wessex – The Landscapes’ exhibition, the largest collection of Hardy objects to ever be displayed. The partnership between the Dorset, Poole, Wiltshire and Salisbury Museums will see each site covering a different topic from Hardy’s life and work.

Tate Modern is to welcome visitors to turn an entirely white apartment setting into a sea of colourful dots in Yayoi Kusama’s The Obliteration Room. The exhibition opens as part of UNIQLO Tate Play, Tate Modern’s free programme of playful art-inspired activities for families in partnership with the clothing brand. It opens on 23rd July 2022.

The National Gallery has created the first exhibition of images of its paintings that can be downloaded for free. ‘Pictures Around Cromer, The National Gallery Collection’ (2 September 2022 – 31 April 2023) is an outdoor exhibition across the seaside town of Cromer in Norfolk, comprising up to 30 life-size replica artworks from the National Gallery Collection.

The Science Museum is to open ‘Cancer Revolution: Science, innovation and hope’, a new free exhibition which will open at a special edition of the museum’s after-hours, adults-only ‘Lates’ event on 25 May. In partnership with Cancer Research UK, the exhibition includes objects that have never been displayed in the UK, new interactive artwork, workshops and talks.

Funding

The Brunel Museum is to expand its watercolours project after exceeding its crowdfund goal.

The project, to house Isambard Kingdom Brunel watercolours in a bespoke cabinet, surpassed its £18,500 goal by 23%.

Applications are now open for Wolfson/DCMS funding grants. Museums, galleries, and museum services can submit a single bid of up to £300,000 for projects improving display and interpretation, visitor experience, access and environmental controls and conservation.

Arts Council England (ACE) has awarded more than £22.7m to a total of 66 cultural organisations in England as part of its Capital Investment Programme.A total of eight museum projects were included in the round, and received a total of £3.3m.
