A rare Celtic football shirt from the early 1990s has been stolen from the National Football Museum in Manchester. The theft occurred at around 2.30pm on 1st February after a man gained access to a third-floor gallery without having paid entry.
Since the incident the police have been working with the Museum and have now released an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the crime.
“The Celtic football shirt that was brazenly taken by a member of the public was a rare and unique item and officers are doing all they can to find whoever is responsible for this theft,” said Police Constable Mohammed Niazi, Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester District.
The kit was on display as part of Strip! How Football Got Shirty, the largest ever curated exhibition of football shirts. The stolen shirt was on display alongside England’s home Umbro shirt from Italia ’90, Brazil’s classic 1970 World Cup shirt as worn by Pele, and West Germany’s 1988-1990 designed by renowned Adidas designer Ina Franzmann.
