The French Culture Minister has announced Paris will reopen most of its iconic cultural and tourist sites today for the first time since a wave of attacks killed 130 across the capital on Friday night.

“In tragic moments that pass over France, culture is more than ever the symbolic place of discovery for oneself and others,” Culture Minister Fleur Pellerin said in a statement.

Major museums such as the Louvre, heritage attractions such as the Eiffel Tower and other historical buildings were due to reopen at 1pm local time following a nationwide minute of silence.

Some museums, such as the Musée d’Orsay, which are closed on Mondays will remain closed as usual, the statement added.
