A new judge has been announced at this year’s Museums + Heritage Awards, which this year takes place as a live ceremony on the evening of 11th May 2021.

Sara Wajid joins the panel of judges and will be tasked with assessing entries across 17 categories, including two brand new categories never before seen at the awards.

Wajid’s experience in the museums and heritage sector is long established. She is currently Co-CEO of Birmingham Museums Trust, and is a Trustee of Pitt Rivers Museum.

She has previously served as Head of Engagement at Museum of London, Head of Interpretation at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BAMG), and has held a range of roles at Royal Museums Greenwich including as Manager of Public Programmes.

Wajid is also a founding member of Museum Detox, a network for BAME museum workers.

National Lottery Heritage Fund

Prior to her roles in the museum sector, Wajid was a prolific journalist and cultural commentator, covering the arts, cultural politics and race relations.

Her work has appeared in national newspapers, journals and literary magazines including The Guardian, New Statesman, Prospect, Times Higher Education Supplement, Mslexia, Wasafiri, Museums Journal, Local Government Chronicle and Times Educational Supplement.

Wajid will assist in the judging of categories which this year includes new categories: Café or Restaurant of the Year and Visitor Welcome Awards sponsored by Tyg Tickets.
