The Engagement Lead from Wessex Museums’ has won a National Diversity Award.
During an award ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral on Friday 17 September, Dr Anjana Khatwa was presented with the award for Positive Role Model in Race, Faith and Religion.
Khatwa began the role in September 2020, having previously served as Programme Manager for Learning at Jurassic Coast Trust, and Adjunct Assitant Professor at the University of Utah.
Wessex Museums is a partnership of museums across Dorset and Wiltshire; the Dorset Museum, Poole Museum, The Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum.
In a statement, Wessex Museums said Dr Khatwa had played an important role in supporting the partner museums to engage with underserved communities in their localities, and in developing Wessex Museums’ Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Framework and EDI Policy for 2021-22.
The awards, which celebrate the achievements of grass-root communities including charities and role models in enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion, was delayed due to Covid.
Kristina Broughton, Wessex Museums Partnership Manager, said: “Anjana is one of the leading voices in the cultural and natural heritage sector advocating and championing for change for underserved audiences. She has fought personal and professional adversity in her life to become a strong voice and leader in the sector.
“Anjana’s role as Engagement Lead within Wessex Museums has already created significant impact in our thinking, strategies and processes with regard to working with the communities who need us the most. We are extremely fortunate to have her expertise, knowledge, passion and seemingly boundless energy to drive our work forward.”
