Tonight the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) will celebrate the skills of its members and promote UNESCO world heritage sites with a series of stunning light shows in the Night of Heritage Light.
“UNESCO is dedicated to preserve our historic sites across the world,” said Liz peck, SLL president. “This event is an opportunity to show how lighting transforms our landscapes and brings history to life.”
The participating sites are: Durdle Door, Jurassic Coast in Dorset, Tower of London, Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire, Blenheim Palace, Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire, Blaenavon Ironworks, Liverpool Maritime, Giant’s Causeway, Old and New Towns of Edinburgh and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
Simeon Kay director of architectural lighting firm Designphase Ltd has teamed up with architectural lighting specialists, LITE Ltd to design a display surrounding Ironbridge Gorge.
“Light plays a big part in architecture and we have picked out certain aspects of the site such as the four arches to give a panoramic view,” he said. “With the support of LITE Ltd we plan to light the iron structure with a range of colour changeable LED products, providing a full width panoramic of the bridge. We also want to highlight the apex of this construction to bring out the central artistic detail and allow people to search for the famous silhouette of Abraham Darby.”
