The awards recognise success and achievement within the vast number of private businesses in the UK, and are presented to the UK’s most successful private companies, entrepreneurs and management teams.

There are 10 different categories, allowing the judges to focus on enterprises of different sizes and approach.

Peter Usborne accepted the award at a ceremony which took place this autumn in London and said: “This is the first award we have won that is not from the publishing industry, but from a much bigger pool – the whole world of private business. Whilst I am somewhat reluctant to think of myself as a ‘businessman’ I am honoured to be seen in this way. But the main credit must go to my staff. I receive awards. They win them.”

Charlie Hoffman, Managing Director, HSBC Private Bank and Chair of the Judging Panel, said of Usborne’s win: “Congratulations to Usborne Publishing on winning the flagship UK Private Business Award, a testament to 40 years of success under the leadership of Peter Usborne.”
