About

GEM (the Group for Education in Museums) champions excellence in heritage learning to improve the education, health and well-being of the public – of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

GEM believes that involvement with our rich and diverse heritage is an enriching and transformational experience that provides distinctive opportunities for learning. We aim to make that learning accessible, relevant and enjoyable for all.

GEM is a vibrant charitable membership organisation that has been in operation for 65 years with 2,000 personal and institutional members across the globe, 90% of whom are professional heritage educators working in the UK.

We are able to achieve this by sharing best practice, expertise and knowledge through both international and regional networks, developing innovative learning projects to advance both non-formal education and sustainable development, as well as providing training, research and travel bursaries. We publish a yearly journal, a series of case studies twice a year, a monthly eNews and many resources online. We also produce a series of professional development events throughout the year, of which the annual international conference is always the highlight.

GEM provides a number of opportunities for people to raise their profile and to advertise their goods and services. These include advertising on the GEM website and in our publications.
