Heritage Open Days is the UK’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,000 organisations, 5,500 events and 53,000 volunteers. Every September this extraordinary community network provides the chance to explore hidden places and try out new experiences – all for FREE! We coordinate the festival, providing organisers with a supportive national framework and promotional platform to connect with audiences and trial ideas.

“Taking part in HODs has made a massive difference to myself, the events and venues that I work with, the way I interact with visitors and the way I think about researching heritage in our local area”

Mark Oswestry Town Museum

“I think festivals like HODs are important for getting people who don’t usually do ‘heritage’ involved in a fun and accessible way”

Yvonne Liskeard Town Council

“I believe that we learnt how to facilitate others’ voices through the participation of HODs this year. We have built nearly 200 new working relationships with the local community which is huge considering we have been a closed site for so long.”
