About

Mary Evans Picture Library is the UK’s leading historical image library with over 50 years’ experience supplying historical, vintage and still film images for use in the museum and heritage sector and in books, magazines, television, online and all manner of other media.

If you’re looking for images as supplementary material for exhibitions, for design elements, for use in advertising, or even for enlivening merchandise for a museum or heritage shop, we can offer an abundance of interesting and rewarding pictures.

Our archive consists of hundreds of thousands of pictures from a vast collection of historic books and periodicals as well as photographs, prints, maps and postcards, visualising the world as it has changed over centuries. We also represent images from more than 350 other collections including the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Medici Society, National Museums Northern Ireland, and the Marx Memorial Library.  In addition, we house and manage the superlative Illustrated London News, an incomparable source of 19th and 20th century news events, social history and fashion. And for film stills and posters, we represent the considerable collections of the Ronald Grant Film Archive, the Everett Film Collection, and Studio Canal.

We have over two million images to search, order and download via our website at www.maryevans.com, but we still offer a personal, knowledgeable picture research service for those occasions when you can’t find what you want or don’t have time to search yourself. Fees are tailored to the specific project images are for, and we always take budgets into consideration, so do please contact us.
