About

Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA) are planners, designers and producers of award-winning museums, exhibitions and educational environments worldwide. Subject areas range from natural history and the physical sciences, to cultural, social and corporate history, to sports and the fine arts, with more than 700 commissions in the company portfolio. RAA has an interdisciplinary staff of over 165 designers, architects, interpretation planners, content developers, media specialists and management personnel operating from studios in London, New York, Berlin, Moscow, Dubai and Beijing.

RAA provides comprehensive services to clients with challenging missions in the areas of public education, public-space and institutional design, and the development of new cultural centres and programmes. The firm is best known for interpretive projects requiring a marriage of engaging content and experiential components with physical environments that are at once compelling and smoothly operational. With over 20 years of practice in London, and over 40 years operating globally, RAA has worked with many of the world’s most recognisable museums and learning institutions.

RAA’s commissions are widely recognised as leaders of excellence, often setting the highest quality standard. The corporate portfolio includes some 350 permanent and temporary exhibitions, 300 commissions in interpretive and institutional planning, consultation and branding, and over 50 active projects currently in development. More than 50 million people visit RAA-planned and -designed projects each year.

The quality of RAA’s work has been recognised in the many awards bestowed on the firm’s projects, including the Art Fund Prize, Museums and Heritage Awards for Excellence, the United States Presidential Award for Design Excellence, the Federal Design Achievement Award, Designs of the Decade from the Industrial Designers Society of America, and more than 200 other awards from organisations around the world.

During the past four decades RAA has developed a wealth of experience working on interpretive museum and heritage projects all over the world, providing a comprehensive understanding of visitor needs internationally. The network of specialist consultants and strong working relationships RAA has developed over this period enables the firm to deliver large-scale, complex projects on time and on budget.
