Wessex Pictures ( A L Younger Ltd) has grown over the past 30 years to become the largest supplier of speciality glazing materials for picture framing and display in the UK.
Our continued programme of investment has enabled us to establish a specialist division dedicated to servicing the glazing requirements of museums, galleries and collectors.
We offer advice on glazing options and an unrivalled service for supply of large panel glazing, low reflectance glazing and safety glazing requirements whether for loan or use in your permanent collections.
We hold large stocks of low reflectance water white laminated safety glazing and Optium Museum low reflectance acrylic and can respond to even the most urgent requests. Additionally we deliver not just to the street but to exactly where you need the material inside your premises. This is an essential part of our service and can be critical when handling large panel glazing.
A team from Wessex Pictures recently completed the removal of existing glazing consisting of twin panels of10mm ordinary laminated glass measuring 3.6 x 2.5m from a fixed wall frame in Exeter College, University of Oxford. The frame enclosed The Adoration of the Magi tapestry by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and woven by William Morris both former students of the college . The tapestry was re-glazed by Wessex Pictures with a single sheet of seamed Optium Museum acrylic measuring 3.6 x 2.5m after the tapestry had been restored. The project required pre-inspection site visits, a full risk assessment and provision of full liability insurance and disposal of the original glass by Wessex Pictures.
Optium Museum Acrylic is available in single sheets up to 3 x 1.8m and in seamed panels up to 3 x 8m. Optium Museum is less static than glass, has high impact resistance, weighs <7.5kgs/m2 (6mm thickness) , reflects <1.6% of visible light and blocks >99% UV light(300 – 380nm).
Water White Low Reflectance laminated safety glazing is available in various thickness from 3mm up in standard sizes up to 3 x 2m and by special order up to 3 x 6m

“Southampton City Council has used Wessex Pictures for several years for the provision of Tru Vue Optium Museum glazing.
They have consistently provided an extremely high level of service and I would strongly endorse the high quality of this low reflective, UV eliminating glazing and their knowledge of this product to other institutions.”
