Despite the sector having endured a hugely challenging twelve months, the desire to highlight outstanding achievements by individuals and organisations alike appears stronger than ever – with an increase of more than a third across all this year’s categories.
“Thank you to everyone who entered. I was thrilled to see how many submissions we received for this special edition of the Museums + Heritage Awards and from such a wide range of organisations, both in terms of size and location,” notes Anna Preedy, director of the Museums + Heritage Awards.
“The people and projects represented will, no doubt, be reflective of the extraordinarily agile response to the challenges of this last year. I am looking forward to seeing who makes the shortlist and ultimately who goes on to scoop one of 16 awards.”
It will now be an anxious wait for entrants before the shortlists are revealed on Wednesday 12th May. On the same day, those to have made the cut in two categories created in response to the past year – COVID Special Recognition Award and the COVID Best Supplier Award – will be publicised so that the ultimate winner can be chosen by a sector-wide vote.
For the second year running the ceremony will be taking place online, with a live-streamed event set to be hosted on 1st July by journalist, broadcaster and equal pay activist Samira Ahmed.
