A £50 million Heritage Emergency Fund was rapidly established in April, responding to many organisations crying out for immediate support to stay afloat. While hundreds of recipients have benefited from this, National Lottery Heritage Fund has once again responded to the sector’s needs and amended the initiative’s criteria.
“This is still a time of great change and uncertainty for heritage organisations, and we are with them in heart and mind right now as they take uncertain steps back into a fast-changing world. We are keen to help them in planning for the recovery that is so vital for heritage, its people and communities,” says Ros Kerslake, chief executive of National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The funding body has recognised that survival for many institutions will involve restructuring in the short- and longer-term. Funding is in place to support extra staffing to help manage queues; PPE for staff and volunteers; specialised training; additional cleaning; implementing contactless payment methods; or the purchase of temporary structures.
There is a further £2 million allotted specifically for freelance or self-employed ROSS consultants – experts who support projects, help run delivery, mentor, monitor and help with business plans.
