The V&A has announced the appointment of its new Director of Collections and Chief Curator.

Dr Melissa Buron joins the V&A from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, where she is currently Director of Curatorial Affairs. She will take up her new role at the V&A in the Spring.

The appointment previously worked as a Learning and Interpretation Research Assistant at the V&A while completing her MA in 2007. Buron returns to the V&A as the organisation expands its family of museums, with the V&A East Storehouse and Museum set to open in east London in 2025.

V&A Director, Dr Tristram Hunt, said: “We are delighted Melissa is joining us as our new Director of Collections and Chief Curator.

“Melissa’s experience at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco will be invaluable at a time of transformation as we continue to expand our family of sites, with museums from Dundee to Stoke-on-Trent to East London.”

Buron added: “I am honoured to join the V&A’s talented teams at this exciting time of expansion and transformation for the collections under Tristram Hunt’s leadership.

“The forthcoming opening of V&A East: Storehouse and Museum represents a dynamic model for collections accessibility, which will meaningfully augment the established network of campuses from Dundee to South Kensington.”
