We are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership to bring the brilliant, global best-selling children’s history series You Wouldn’t Want to be… to the stage. The show will premiere at this year’s Cheltenham Literary Festival on Saturday 5th October and subsequently run at the Capitol Theatre, Horsham, 15-19th October 2019.

Working with Marcus Dilly, who since 2005 has written and performed shows to 75,000 children across the UK and internationally, the first show is inspired by the first book in this wonderfully entertaining series: You Wouldn’t Want to be an Egyptian Mummy! by David Stewart and illustrated by David Antram.

The shows will feature Marcus’ trademark combination of drama, music, comedy and audience interaction to inspire, educate and entertain. After this initial run, the show will tour theatres across the South East in Spring 2020 with a second show focusing on another of the bestselling titles. A range of promotions will include opportunities to win the entire series of books for school libraries.

“The You Wouldn’t Want To Be… series published by Salariya imprint Book House has sold over six million copies in 32 territories,” noted David Salariya, Director of Salariya publishing. “We hope that this exciting stage venture will help to introduce the ‘ghastly things you wouldn’t want to know’ to new audiences. We know that the enormously talented Marcus Dilly will create a spectacular show from our source material, and we look forward to seeing him work his magic onstage very soon.”

Marcus Dilly, Director of Creative Education UK and Mr Dilly Ltd, added: “I am very excited to be working with Salariya and am looking forward to capturing the fun, frightening and fantastic world of history inspired by the You Wouldn’t Want to Be… series in this brand-new performance. Bringing the Ancient Egyptians to life on stage is a great way to engage with children to show just how awesome (and gruesome) history is.”
